Shamanism is based on the belief that all things in the world have spirit; animals, plants, the elements and more, with the practice of journeying at the heart of it. I will be posting some of the amazing journeys I’ve taken over the years.
Journey: 05.10.2020
I put in my ear buds and started the drumming cd. I relaxed and let myself really hear the music, the steady beat of drums. I saw myself driving to a small waterfall I particularly liked. The road began to climb and curve until I reached a narrow canyon. I got out of the car and stood, at once feeling the energy, seeing the vibrant colors in the groups of wildflowers around me, the bright shades of green in the trees and bushes. I heard the low rumble of falling water.
I started down the path but didn’t go far before I stopped and sat on a large boulder. I sat on its warm, smooth surface and raised my eyes to the sky. I allowed myself to release any negativities, doubts and fears from inside me. I let any anger, regrets and disappointments just slip away. The more I let go the closer I felt to the beauty around me. I felt wonderful, yes, positively wonderful to be there, to feel God’s energy in my own perfect spot.
I continued down the path, crossing a small stream, acknowledging Panther and Cougar nearby, observing my journey. At the end of the path I stood, gazing at the waterfall, at the sun’s reflection on its flow. I was amazed at all the Butterflies stirring the air around me, all the many vibrant colors. I crossed over the rocky edge of the waterfall’s base to a grouping of large rocks and boulders. As I sat on one of the boulders Bear appeared. He was the color of honey and he nuzzled me and rub his large head against me in welcome. On my other side Unicorn appeared, huge, white, and eyes so deep a blue you could see forever in them. I absorbed their energy, grateful for the visit, eager for their guidance. I climbed on Unicorn’s back and we took off flying up out of the canyon to the top of the waterfall. Bear flew beside us. We reached the top of the waterfall as the moon was rising and stars appeared in the sky overhead. I was certain I had never seen a more perfect sight. I was awed by the enormity of God’s creative powers. A shadow flew across the moon and Owl appeared, golden and stunning, his eyes compassionate and wise.
I felt a tremor course through me. I was surrounded and cared for and guided by these amazing creatures, yet it was up to me to accept their assistance, to understand what their messages might be. I felt safety and security from Bear, adventure and yes, magic, from Unicorn, wisdom and healing from Owl. So what did it mean? What did I need to learn? What did I need to heal to move forward?
A shadow passed by and I felt a presence behind me. I turned and there was Vulture. What was this? What did it all mean? Guidance? Warning? Assurance?
What was their message?
