I'LL TAKE JUST A MOMENT

When the urge comes upon me to take that first drink
I’ll pause just a moment, just one moment to think
And I’ll take the time in which to think
Of what I’ve learned from my past deeds.
Yes, I’ll take that moment just to think
Of wasted time, of wasted youth, of the lies I told, of the hidden truth
I’ll weigh the control that I stand to lose
Against the use of drugs, beer or booze
I’ll think of the battle which I have fought
Of the hill I’ve climbed to my sober loft.
Then I’ll take just a moment in which to feel
The pride and respect when I topped that hill
And I’ll take just a moment to say goodbye
To the past I’ve led, and the days gone by
And I’ll feel that urge leave, that desire to use
Because the control I have now, I don’t want to lose
Yes, I live my life now controlled just by me
A life without booze called sobriety
So when the urge comes upon me to take that first drink
I’ll pause just a moment, just one moment to think
And when I’m done thinking, I’ll reach for that drink
But it’ll be water I reach for, water to drink.
